Winter & Spring 2022 Classes

Below are our Winter/Spring Class offerings. WTP has set up policies in order to keep our students, teachers, and families safe. This semester WTP will require that all enrolled students either (i) be be fully vaccinated and up to date on recommended vaccinations/boosters as available for Covid-19 or (ii) submit to a Covid-19 test prior to each entry at WTP.

With the exception of our audition-only programs, space for classes is allocated on a first come, first served basis. For our audition-only programs, registration fees will be charged once students are selected for the program.

Theatre Arts Classes

From kindergarten through high school, we offer a wide range of in-person and virtual programs for both beginners and experienced stage performers - including classes in acting/drama, musical dance theatre, and voice. Students who are interested in pursuing a WTP Production Class are strongly encouraged to enroll in a WTP Acting Class if they have not already done so.

Theatre in a Trunk

A new adventure begins each week as actors discover treasures in a trunk and bring characters to life through creative drama and movement. Class features an interactive exploration of beginning theatre, classic and current children’s literature.

Have you ever wondered how those big production numbers pop?  In this fun and fast paced dance class, WTP will focus on the dance moves that make audiences beg for more. Students will hone their technique while learning those leaps, turns, and tricks that make audiences beg for more.

This acting class is great for everyone!  Students will study the techniques of theatre while building foundational acting skills and theatre vocabulary.  Students will explore theatre through games, monologues, scene work, character building, and improvisation.

Love to sing? These one-on-one lessons, will give students the opportunity to build and improve their basic singing technique while expanding their knowledge of the musical theatre repertoire.  Each student will also be given the chance to share their progress in a group “share-formance” at the end of each eight-week session.

Do you love to dance? Are you looking to hone your craft? These one on one lessons offer students a chance to develop and perfect their dance skills. Lessons will focus on technique, stage presence, strength, conditioning, as well as audition preparation. Choose from a variety of styles including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Fosse, and Lyrical.

2ND TO 8TH GRADE

"Sing Out, Louise!" Learn solo and ensemble numbers from some hit Broadway shows of the past and present! Students will work on becoming true theatrical "triple threats" during this intensive. Singing, Dancing, and Acting their way through some of Musical Theatre's most beloved songs.  Includes one on one and group coaching with Musical Director. The final day of class will feature a "Shareformance".

Tap and Conditioning
Dance Workshop

4TH TO 12TH GRADE

5 weeks

$220

Mondays 7:00pm-8:00pm

04/25, 05/02, 05/09, 05/23, 06/06

In this fun and fast-paced workshop, students will learn the basic steps of tap! In addition, students will build up their dance stamina with conditioning training. This class is great for first timers with no previous dance experience and students who have taken tap before. This class is highly recommended for students enrolling in WTP's production of Newsies, Summer 2022 but anyone can participate. Tap shoes are required for class and please wear clothes that are appropriate for exercising (no jeans).

Prerequisite:  Previous enrollment in a WTP production class and/or current or previous enrollment in a WTP Acting, Dance or Workshop class. Students who have been in a WTP production, but who have not taken a WTP Acting Class are strongly encouraged to do so.  At the teacher's discretion, enrollment requirements may be waived. The Wizard Of Oz

2ND TO 12TH GRADE

Rehearsal Days - Choose One:
Wednesday/Friday, 4-6pm and some Saturdays 1-4pm
Tuesday/Thursday, 4-6pm and some Saturdays 1-4pm  (WAIT LIST ONLY)

After auditions students will receive a rehearsal schedule. While students may not be required to attend every Saturday rehearsal, attendance during Tech Week is mandatory.

Students are expected to attend all rehearsals. Attendance is mandatory.

Join all of your favorite characters in this classic story based on the original Tony-Award winning Broadway musical. This is the familiar story of Dorothy's tornado-driven adventure in Oz, and the wonderful characters who befriend and protect her: the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion. This show includes the toe-tapping favorites, "Over the Rainbow, "If I Only Had A Brain", "Merry Old Land of Oz", "Ding, Dong the Witch is Dead”.

Spring Awakening

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30-9:00pm and

After auditions students will receive a rehearsal schedule. While students may not be required to attend every rehearsal, attendance during Tech Week is mandatory.

 

Audition Information:

For auditions, please prepare 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show (not from the show), particularly those with a folk/rock style (examples include: Hedwig...Inch, Bare, Next to Normal, Rent, or singer-songwriters like Sara Bareilles, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkle).

 

Students must be available for callbacks on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 6:30pm. You will be asked to read and sing from the show, and there may be a movement call. More info will be sent to those who are called back after auditions on Monday, Dec. 20.

Students MUST bring the Audition Form, Conflict Sheet, and Guardian Signed Permission Slip to Audition. Without these completed you will not be able to audition.
